WEST UNION — West Union Bank has announced the retirement of Thomas Whaling after 27 years of service with the bank.
Whaling joined the bank on Dec. 21, 1998, as its chief financial officer, but has spent most of his career as the president and CEO. He is retiring in January.
A release from the bank said Whaling has always worked hard, shown integrity and demonstrated kindness.
“Tom will be greatly missed and is considered by many to be the best boss that they ever had,” the release said. “Tom has always led by example, treating other people the way he wants to be treated. Some qualities that make Tom a great leader include his abilities to analyze facts, interpret data, and make strategic decisions, to foresee various outcomes and points of view, and to balance personal and work life.”
Whaling is on numerous boards involved in helping local communities. He plans to spend time traveling with his wife, Martha, and visiting his stepchildren, grandchildren and friends.
A public reception will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at West Union Bank’s West Union office to celebrate the occasion.
