PARKERSBURG — Motorists across the country received an early Christmas present this week as auto club AAA announced the average price for a gallon of gasoline hit the $3 mark for the first time since 2021.

In northern West Virginia, the average sits at $2.82 per gallon, 10 cents lower than the previous week, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.

As the holiday season begins, the national average has fallen to $3 per gallon for the first time since May 2021, the report says. Prior to May of 2021, the last time the national average hit $3 was October 2014.

Gas prices have been fairly stable over the last couple of months due to lower crude oil prices and sluggish demand, AAA reported.

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, West Texas Intermediate fell 60 cents to settle at $58.65 a barrel.

In Parkersburg, the average is $2.827. Other averages in the state were:

* $2.605 …. Clarksburg

* $2.766 …. Bridgeport

* $2.833 …. Wheeling

* $2.838 …. Morgantown

* $2.851 …. Huntington

* $2.971 …. Weirton

* $2.995 …. Martinsburg

One year ago the average gasoline price in West Virginia was $2.935. On June 13, 2022, the record high average price was $4.945.

For electric vehicles, the national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stayed the same this past week at 38 cents.

Starting at $2.99/week.
