PARKERSBURG – West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner, left, presented a certificate of membership in the West Virginia Centurion Chamber of Commerce for The Parkersburg News and Sentinel to Executive Editor Christina Myer. The Centurion award recognizes West Virginia businesses who have been in continual operation for 100 years or more. The News and Sentinel was formed by the merger of the morning Parkersburg News and afternoon Parkersburg Sentinel in 2009. Prior to the merger, the Sentinel had published continuously for 134 years, founded in 1875 by Robert Hornor and acquired by the Ogden family in 1912. Wheeling publisher Herschel C. Ogden, an ancestor of the owners of Ogden Newspapers, acquired the News in 1915. (Photo by Art Smith)
