PARKERSBURG — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg announced this week the appointment of Darlene Murphy as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Murphy brings a dynamic combination of youth development experience, educational leadership, clinical counseling training, and deep-rooted community involvement to the role, according to a press release announcing her appointment.
“I am honored to serve as CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg,” Murphy said. “The Club has shaped the lives of countless young people in our region for decades, and I am grateful for the opportunity to build on that legacy.
A former middle school principal, unit director of the Mary Street Clubhouse and current clinical counselor, Murphy has dedicated her career to building safe, supportive, and empowering environments where young people can thrive.
Her leadership extends beyond the club and the school system as Murphy has served on multiple local nonprofit boards, collaborating with community partners across sectors to strengthen resources for children, families, and vulnerable populations.
Murphy’s ability to develop strong partnerships, manage complex operations, and implement trauma-informed, youth-centered programming made her the clear choice to lead the organization into its next chapter, according to Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg Board Chair Bob Newell.
“Darlene’s passion for youth, her extensive experience with Club operations, and her strong background in education and counseling made her the ideal candidate,” he said. “Her leadership will greatly benefit the children, families, and community we serve.”
In her role as CEO, Murphy will oversee strategic direction, operations, staff development, and community engagement for Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg.
She will work closely with the Board of Directors, community leaders, and families to ensure that every young person served by the club has access to academic support, enriching programs, leadership development opportunities, and a safe place to grow, the release said.
Under Murphy’s leadership, the organization will continue its focus on high-quality programming, sustainable growth, and positive outcomes for youth throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley, according to the release.
“I am honored to serve as CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg,” said Murphy. “The Club has shaped the lives of countless young people in our region for decades, and I am grateful for the opportunity to build on that legacy. My goal is to expand our reach, strengthen our partnerships, and ensure that every child who enters our doors feels valued, supported, and inspired.”
