PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Development Authority and the Parkersburg-Wood County Area Development Corporation will be holding their joint annual meeting at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Parkersburg Country Club. West Virginia Secretary of Commerce Dr. Matt Herridge will be the keynote speaker at the meeting. Herridge is a business owner in West Virginia and serves as the state Secretary of Commerce and recently stepped down as state GOP Chairman. “As an economic development entity, we believe our members will enjoy hearing about the economic outlook of our state,” said Wood County Economic Development Executive Director Lindsey Piersol. “Additionally, Secretary Herridge has been a business owner and is a Wood County native, and we look forward to hearing what he has to share.” Herridge is a lifelong resident of West Virginia aside from attending Harding University in Arkansas and Virginia Tech. He spent 10 years in Clinical Psychology at the Charleston Area Medical Center and was a member of the WVU School of Medicine clinical faculty. He entered the world of business in 2005 by operating 24 Burger Kings and three Qdoba restaurants. He also launched a software development company that creates solutions for the restaurant industry. “The annual meeting is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other members, network, and hear a firsthand account of economic development projects that occurred locally within the fiscal year,” said Piersol. “We also use the annual meeting to nominate and vote on new board members as well as the renewal of existing board members.” The Wood County Economic Development’s mission is to support businesses and foster a strong economic environment through growth and investment in the community. The organization recruits news businesses to the county while continuing to work with and grow the businesses currently in the area. The joint annual meeting is scheduled for October each year. The PWCADC meets on the second Wednesday of every other month and the WCDA meets as needed. Amber Phipps can be reached at aphipps@newsandsentinel.com.
