VIENNA — Promoting community volunteerism, the GFWC Parkersburg Woman’s Club held its September business luncheon with Downtown PKB at the Parkersburg Country Club in Vienna.
Downtown PKB Executive Director Amanda Stevens discussed the vibrancy of Parkersburg, noting the many celebrations and food establishments. Unique art and flowers decorate the city that has hosted over 80,000 visitors to Discovery World on Market, she said.
The Domestic Violence Awareness committee reported its participation in the annual North Hills Garage Sales that raised $1,000.25. Following days of collecting and pricing merchandise, members greeted shoppers on a rainy Saturday to earn funds to be invested in community projects such as North Star Child Advocacy Center, the Parkersburg High School Care Closet and the Gustke Shelter.
Unsold items were donated to House to Home, Salvation Army and the New Start Thrift Mart.
Club volunteers maintain 12 Little Libraries and welcome donations of new and slightly used children’s books.
