VIENNA — Vienna City Council received an update Thursday regarding the renovation of the former Ohio Valley University campus by West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
The update on the Innovation and Technology Center project was presented by WVUP President Tori Jackson and Wood County Economic Development Authority Executive Director Lindsey Piersol.
They showed council photos from various aspects of the project, outlining the progress that has been made over the past several months. Jackson said the work is a little behind schedule due to frequent rains but is progressing well and they anticipate offering the first classes in mid-August as previously scheduled.
The renovation has been extensive, including interior improvements and the replacement of 460 windows and 32 exterior doors.
A community grand opening has been moved back slightly but is currently scheduled for mid-October, they said.
Council also approved several bids at Thursday’s meeting. For deicing salt for streets, the city received three bids. Council approved a bid from Compass Minerals for $111.37 per ton if delivered and $105 per ton if picked up.
For street concrete replacement, the city received one bid for concrete, subgrade and sidewalk replacement. Council approved Jimmie Harper Construction’s bid for $30 per square foot for concrete replacement, $20 per square foot for subgrade replacement and $30 per square foot for sidewalk replacement.
For as needed asphalt, the city received one bid. Council approved a bid from Affordable Asphalt Main with various costs from milling to raising manholes, catch basins and risers.
For ready-mix concrete and flowable fill, the city received two bids. Council approved a bid from Smith Concrete for $149 per cubic yard and $180 per cubic yard.
