Wood County Commission mulls Resiliency Center rental rates

PARKERSBURG -- The Wood County Commission is reviewing suggested rental rates for the new Resiliency Center.

Fees vary depending on the board room, either hourly or for the full day, from $25 and hour for the small board room to $3,000 for all the rooms for all day.

"Non profits will get a discount," Commissioner Blair Couch said.

The Resiliency Center, located on the site of the demolished county jail at Court Square in Parkersburg, was financed through the American Recovery Act.

The $13 million facility will be used during emergencies, disasters, medical needs and pandemic response, a temporary shelter and a dispatching center backup site. Accommodations available for public rental, which include a large commercial kitchen, can be used for wedding receptions, dinners, conventions, conferences and meetings and legislative sessions, among other events.

Suggested rates for full-day rental only of the full ballroom is $2,500 with half the ballroom for $1,500.

The small boardroom is $25 an hour and $200 for the full day. The medium boardroom is $35 an hour and $250 for the day. The large boardroom is $50 an hour and $400 for the day.

Clients can have their event catered from among the approved caterers.

Confirmed caterers so far are Valley Catering, Blennerhassett Hotel, I Don't Care Catering and the Grand Pointe Conference Center, Sydney Weber, director of the Resiliency Center, said.

A refundable fee will be charged to ensure the kitchen is cleaned. The intention is that the facilities are in the same condition before and after their use, Commissioner Jimmy Colombo said.

Clients can provide alcoholic beverages and bartenders with the approval of the venue director and the county administrator. Host liquor liability insurance is required, at the client's expense, that also will cover the Resiliency Center.

The suggested fees will be put on the commission agenda at a later date, Colombo said.

"We're booking now," Weber said

A ribbon cutting and opening is planned for Jan. 7, the itinerary of such is being organized, County Administrator Marty Seufer said.

Tours or a video of the center also will be provided, depending on the size of the crowd, Weber said.
