West Virginia University at Parkersburg president to keynote annual Wood County Economic Development meeting

PARKERSBURG -- The Wood County Development Authority and the Parkersburg-Wood County Area Development Corporation will hold their joint annual meeting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Parkersburg Country Club.
West Virginia University at Parkersburg President Torie Jackson will be the keynote speaker, discussing the progress at the former Ohio Valley University site which was purchased by the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation and is being renovated into the Innovation and Technology Center.
The ITC will allow for business incubation, entrepreneurship expansion, additive and subtractive manufacturing, student business startups and education in the fields of computer science, computer information technology, cybersecurity, network administration and cloud computing.
A first-generation college student, Jackson earned an associate degree in journalism at WVUP. She continued her education at WVU with a bachelor's degree in journalism, a master's degree in organizational communication and a doctoral degree in higher education administration.
She also holds a certificate of advanced studies in educational leadership from Salem International University and a certificate of current affairs fundraising in crisis leadership from the Indiana University Lilly School of Philanthropy.
Before being named president, Jackson served in various roles at WVUP, including chief operating officer, executive vice president for institutional advancement, president and CEO of the WVUP Foundation and associate professor of communication. West Virginia Executive magazine selected her as one of its Young Guns Class of 2021 members. Her peers also recognized her with the WVUP Bernard P. McDonough Faculty of the Year Award in 2015 and as the WVUP Employee of the Year in 2014.
