Picture This: Discovery World on Market Shifts into New Gear with Derby
The inaugural Izzy’s Indy Derby Race at West Virginia University at Parkersburg was held Sunday. The STEM focused event was done in conjunction with Discovery World. There was also a classic car show with around 25 cars. Organizers want to do a camp next summer where the kids will learn how to build their own cars. They had a lot of adults express an interest in having an adult division next year. A number of local business sponsored cars this year, including Parkersburg Plumbing Solutions, Matheny Motors, Discovery World on Market built two cars and the college’s Student Government Association had a car built with the help of the college’s welding program. Sunday was the inaugural Izzy’s Indy Derby Race at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. The race was a STEM-focused racing challenge, held in conjunction with Discovery World. Kids learned about what goes into racing and got to use racing simulators. Several groups made cars and brought them out and the kids were able to drive them on a gravity track at the college lined with straw bails where participants learned about how inertia works.
