Williamstown man among Generation West Virginia 2024 honorees

PARKERSBURG -- An engineer from Williamstown is among the 2024 honorees by Generation West Virginia.
Sean Cottrill, a principal structural engineer at Pickering Associates in Parkersburg, received the Emerging Leader Award, which celebrates a standout Generation West Virginia Fellowship program graduate who demonstrates perseverance, creativity and the promise of future growth.
Each year, Generation West Virginia highlights notable West Virginians who embody the group's mission to equip young residents with the key skills and career opportunities they need to thrive in the Mountain State.
Honorees for 2024 will be recognized in August at the Generation West Virginia Summer Night Soiree.
Cottrill graduated from the Generation West Virginia Fellowship Program and also received a promotion to become an owner of Pickering Associates. The owners of Pickering spoke highly of the leadership skills and confidence he gained in the Fellowship program.
As an owner at Pickering, Cottrill designs structures and oversees and reviews young engineers' design work before it is constructed.
"I was not expecting to be recommended for this award, but it shows that the hard work and dedication I have put into my career so far is paying off," Cottrill said. "This award also inspires me to further contribute to my field and future growth."
Other 2024 recipients and their awards are:
* Lindsey Crittendon, Huntington, received the Empowerment Award that recognizes an exceptional NewForce graduate who has successfully forged a new career pathway upon completing the program and serves as a role model to their fellow alumni. NewForce is Generation West Virginia's fully remote, tuition-free tech training program.
* The West Virginia Chamber Foundation received the Distinguished Leadership Award for Jobs for the West Virginia Graduates program supporting high school students with barriers to success. It has helped about 1,000 students from McDowell, Logan, Boone and Lewis counties and is expanding into Jackson and Clay counties.
The Summer Night Soiree will be held at the J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works outside Charleston. The presenting sponsor is Southwestern Energy.
The evening includes recognition ceremonies, a seated buffet dinner and cocktails and live music by Minor Swing.
