PARKERSBURG -- WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center's Dr. Michael Cheshire was honored earlier this month as one of four recipients of the distinguished Fellow of the National Lipid Association Award at the 2024 NLA Scientific Sessions Conference in Las Vegas.
The award recognizes excellence, innovation, and leadership in clinical lipidology, and is reserved for members of the NLA who have made significant contributions to the science and practice of clinical lipidology.
Clinical lipidologists specialize in the diagnosis and management of lipid and related metabolic disorders which lead to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and other health issues. Lipidologists use data from various sources including blood work, physician exams, imaging studies and genetic testing to develop plans to reduce the risk of heart disease for patients and their families.
Cheshire serves as program director of the WVU School of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program at Camden Clark and medical director of the residency program's outpatient teaching clinic. He practices clinical lipidology through the WVU Medicine Camden Clark Lipidology and Preventive Cardiology Clinic. A release from the hospital said he began his tenure in Parkersburg as one of the first resident physicians at Camden Clark and has since worked diligently to advance educational opportunities for physician trainees.
"I'm appreciative of the opportunities that I've had to care for patients and their families and for the support I've received from my family and colleagues," Cheshire said. "I look forward to continued service to our local community and the National Lipid Association."
Cheshire is a diplomate of the American Board of Osteopathic Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Clinical Lipidology and American Board of Obesity Medicine. He maintains teaching affiliations with WVU School of Medicine, the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and Pikeville University Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has previously been awarded the designations of Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
