Memorial Health System to open new Athens emergency facility on June 13
ATHENS — Memorial Health System will open its new Athens Medical Campus Emergency Department at 206 Columbus Road at 7 a.m. June 13.
To celebrate the grand opening, a community open house will be held from 5-7 p.m. May 29 at the facility. Light refreshments provided by The Changed Plate will be available and visitors can tour the emergency department before the June 13 opening.
Construction started in October with the arrival of the first of 204 MODLOGIQ modules from New Holland, Pa. The Athens Medical Campus is the largest healthcare facility in North America built using smart off-site construction.
While the facility has four floors, only the first where the emergency department is located will be operating as of June 13. The 13-room Emergency Department is fully equipped with technology and resources such as lab services, x-ray, CT scanning and ultrasound, offering patients treatment for a wide range of emergency conditions including pain, stroke, broken bones, cuts and burns, among others.
Memorial Health System is eager to further expand the already robust network of primary and specialty services it has established in the Athens Community, which is why services on the other three floors will be opened as the year progresses, according to Scott Cantley, Memorial Health president and CEO.
“We are driven to build great healthcare that allows people to have local access to the services that we do very well,” Cantley said. “We can’t wait for patients to experience the new facility and the care we provide, enabling them to stay closer to home.”
In the coming months, Memorial Health System’s primary care providers already in the Athens area will be joined by providers specializing in cardiology, endocrinology, ear, nose and throat, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, podiatry, pulmonology and rheumatology.
Memorial Health System is a not-for-profit regional health system led by a volunteer board of residents from the community. Its network includes three hospitals, outpatient service sites, provider clinics and a virtual urgent care app-MemorialCareNow.
