PARKERSBURG -- The Camden Clark Foundation honored past, present and future generations of nurses in observance of National Nurses Month at a luncheon on May 9.

Alumni from the former Camden Clark School of Nursing, members of the Camden Clark leadership team and other guests gathered for the celebration where two $2,000 scholarships were presented in memory of former Camden Clark director of nursing, Ella Bloomheart, and grateful patient, Barbara Fonte.

The 2024 scholarship winners were Olivia Ramsay, West Virginia Junior College, and Regan Smith, West Virginia University.

Ramsay is currently enrolled as a sophomore nursing student at West Virginia Junior College. She graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health in 2023. Upon completion of her nursing degree, she hopes to pursue a career as a nurse navigator.

Ramsay is the daughter of Liz and Scott Ramsay, who serves as a social worker in Camden Clark's Care Management Department.

Smith is a junior attending West Virginia University where she is working toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and has completed a minor in addiction studies. She will be working in the Camden Clark Intensive Care Unit this summer as part of Camden Clark's Nurse Extern Program, which provides essential clinical skills and hands-on training to prepare participants for their future careers as RNs.

She is the daughter of Tracy Smith, Director of Radiology and Vascular Lab at Camden Clark.

"We're thrilled for the opportunity to continue providing financial assistance to local nursing students and Camden Clark nurses continuing their education," said Kim Couch, Executive Director of the Camden Clark Foundation. "I'm honored to work with the Camden Clark School of Nursing alumnae and humbled by their generosity year after year. We couldn't be more grateful for their support of our next generation of nurses."

Contributions are made each year to fund the annual scholarships by alumni of the former Camden Clark School of Nursing, which graduated its last class in 1969. Local college students pursuing nursing degrees or currently employed RNs furthering their education are eligible for the scholarships.
