PARKERSBURG -- WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center was recently awarded the HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence from the American College of Cardiology for providing world-class patient care through a sustainable quality improvement program.

Camden Clark is the only hospital in the Mid-Ohio Valley to receive this prestigious accolade from the ACC for the fourth consecutive year for its demonstrated commitment to comprehensive, high-quality culture and cardiovascular care.

"We are pleased that we have again been recognized for our excellence in providing cardiology services to our community," said Dr. David Gnegy, President, Parkersburg Cardiology Associates; Camden Clark Medical Director of Cath Lab and Cardiac Services. "We have an excellent team of cardiologists and health professionals who are dedicated to meeting the needs of our community and maintaining high standards of care.

"Our designation as a HeartCARE Center of Excellence demonstrates our ongoing commitment to heart health in the Mid-Ohio Valley."

Hospitals and health systems that have earned an ACC HeartCARE Center designation have met a set of criteria, including participating in at least two ACC Accreditation Services programs, NCDR registries and targeted quality improvement campaigns. In 2023, Camden Clark was awarded three-year accreditations from the ACC in areas including Cardiac Catheterization with PCI and Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation.

"I am very proud of the work that we do at WVU Medicine Camden Clark and of the commitment of our team to provide quality care and outcomes," said Kristina Brooks, Director, Cardiovascular Services. "The ACC accreditations that we participate in are more than just awards; they are robust quality programs that push us to meet best practices and to continually strive to improve our processes to better deliver the highest standard of care.

"As one of the few ACC accredited programs in West Virginia, it is even more impressive to have achieved such recognition for the 4th year in a row."

Hospitals receiving the HeartCARE Center designation from the ACC have demonstrated their commitment to consistent, high-quality cardiovascular care through comprehensive process improvement, disease and procedure-specific accreditation, professional excellence, and community engagement.

Camden Clark has proven to be a forward-thinking institution with goals to advance the cause of sustainable quality improvement, officials said.

"WVU Medicine Camden Clark has demonstrated its commitment to providing the Mid-Ohio Valley with excellent heart care," said Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. "ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Camden Clark with the HeartCARE Center designation."
