MARIETTA -- Three area Par Mar stores and one meat processing plant are on the ballot this general election petitioning for the sale of alcohol.
The Par Mar in Wesley Township, located at 2346 State Route 550, Wesley Township, the Par-Mar Store 2 in Barlow Township, located at 8600 State Route 339, Vincent, and the Par Mar Store in Little Hocking (Rockland West), located at 66 Arrowhead Rd, Belpre Township, are all petitioning for a D-6 permit that would allow them to sell alcohol on Sundays.
Staley Countryside Meat Co., located at 39 Veto Road, Little Hocking (Decatur Township), is petitioning for a C-1 and C-2 permit that would allow for the sale of carryout only of beer, wine and pre-packaged, low proof mixed beverages until 1 a.m.
Mandy Amos, executive director of the Washington County Board of Elections, said that although the store located in Little Hocking is on two separate Rockland West ballots, they would be counted as one.
"The store sits along the school district split," Amos said. "But both will be combined and added together."
She said only the voters located within the precinct will be able to vote on the specific ballot issue.
Amos said after the ballots have been counted the Board of Elections will send a certificate of results to the Ohio Department of Liquor Control.
"They would get ahold of them, I'm assuming, to let them know when they can start selling," Amos said. "I don't know how quickly that takes effect."
Early voting has already begun with the general election set for Nov. 7.
