VIENNA — A certified fitness trainer has opened a new studio in Vienna.
Phyllis Brown’s Fitness with Phyllis is at 1500 Grand Central Ave. where full-service training, nutrition counseling, massage therapy, weekly classes and customized fitness plans are available every day. The gym is open around the clock and offers monthly membership specials and other specials.
It’s the second Fitness with Phyllis studio, having opened at the first of the year. The first Belpre location opened in May 2019 on Washington Boulevard where she received the Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
“A client said to me one day ‘I really enjoy your gym; you meet people where they are.’ I loved the way he put that, so that became our motto,” said Brown. “People started asking for another location, so I took a risk and opened the new studio in January.”
Vienna is a good place for large and small businesses like Fitness with Phyllis, Mayor Randy Rapp said.

“I think Vienna has a lot of opportunities for businesses like that,” he said.
Brown is certified by the International Sports Sciences Association.
She underwent open-heart surgery five months ago and has recovered her health and strength while continuing to train and educate others.
“I love to teach preventative measures to help keep people as healthy as possible,” Brown said. “I’m a believer that if you exercise, eat healthy and take the best care of yourself, if you do face challenges, like the mechanical issue with my mitral valve, you will recover faster.”
Brown got interested in fitness to relieve stress and stay in shape. She became interested in nutrition and her body began to change, she said. People started asking her what she was doing.
“I became more and more interested and researched and tested things until I decided I would like to become certified,” Brown said. “A co-worker said if I became certified she would be my first client. I am now certified in personal training, exercise therapy, nutrition, youth fitness, group fitness and p90x classes.”
Brown decided to open her own fitness center after training for several years at different gyms.
“I would see a certain clientele that felt uncomfortable in the gym setting and wanted to make an environment that welcomed everyone from marathon runners to people recovering from hip surgery,” she said.
