Camden Clark Medical Center earns accreditation from American College of Radiology

PARKERSBURG — WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center has received a three-year accreditation in computed tomography following a recent review by the American College of Radiology.

CT scanning, often referred to as CAT scanning, is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.

The Gold Seal of accreditation from the College of Radiology is the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

“WVU Medicine Camden Clark is dedicated to providing the highest quality imaging services to our community,” Tracy Smith, WVU Medicine Camden Clark Director of Radiology & Vascular Lab, said. “Maintaining accreditation through the ACR demonstrates our commitment to this endeavor. The CT technologists at our facility are dedicated to their field and focused on providing excellent patient care through quality and safety. We are very proud of this team for their hard work through the process of reaccreditation through the ACR.”

Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed during the accreditation process. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society dedicated to serving patients and society by empowering radiology professionals to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care. The College serves more than 37,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services.

Camden Clark Medical Center is a 302 licensed-bed, not-for-profit, acute care facility that serves an 11-county region of 250,000 residents of West Virginia and Southeastern Ohio.
