Pomeroy pharmacist receives national award

POMEROY -- A pharmacist from Pomeroy on March 9 received an award from the National Association of Community Health Centers.

R. Logan Yoho received the Elizabeth K. Cooke Grassroots Advocacy Award at the association's Policy and Issues Forum in Washington, D.C.

Yoho was recognized for his continued advocacy of the 340B Drug Discount Program and Community Health Centers. He was integral to the passing of a 340B Protection Bill in 2020 and has been active in national advocacy, participating in social media campaigns, marches and Capitol Hill visits.

In 1992, the 340B Program was signed into law by George H. W. Bush after a bipartisan act of Congress. The program requires drug manufacturers to discount medication for providers so they can, as the intent of the program states, "stretch scarce federal resources as far as possible."

Health centers use the discounts to fund vital programs such as opening clinics in rural communities and expanding services treating the opioid epidemic. The program is vital to improving the healthcare of millions of vulnerable Americans without costing taxpayers a dime.

Yoho received a Doctor of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University in 2010. He is the director of pharmacy at Hopewell Health Centers, a community health center with locations in nine counties in Southeastern Ohio.

He also is an Apexus-Certified 340B Expert. Before joining the team at Hopewell, Yoho worked in retail pharmacy for over seven years. In addition, Logan also is president-elect of the Ohio Pharmacist Association, chair of the Ohio FQHC 340B Consortium and a 340B Pharmacy Services Consultant.

Community Health Centers operate 14,000 healthcare delivery sites nationwide serving more than 30 million Americans. Many of the vital services they provide would not happen without the 340B Program.
