WILLIAMSTOWN — Cannabist, a retail medical marijuana dispensary in Williamstown, recently donated more than $7,000 to American Legion Post 159 in Williamstown.

The business contributed a percentage of the weekly proceeds from retail sales at its four West Virginia locations — in Williamstown, Beckley, Morgantown and St. Albans — to the post to help fund scholarships for local high school students, send youth to state capitols to learn about government and help at-risk veterans transition back into civilian life, a spokeswoman said.

The donated amount increased during a Nov. 25 event at the Williamstown location featuring live music, door prizes, giveaways from local businesses and more.

Cannabist has been an ongoing partner with the American Legion, holding fundraisers and hosting program information and patient signup events at local chapters for veterans and the public.
