PARKERSBURG -- Downtown PKB has received a grant to cover signage costs for small businesses in downtown Parkersburg.
Money to fund the program comes from grants awarded by the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation through the American Rescue Plan, the City of Parkersburg and the McDonough Foundation. The goal of this program is to ignite economic development, sustain current businesses, and promote growth of new businesses and organizations, Amanda Stevens of Downtown PKB said.
To participate, the signs must be for commercial property located in downtown Parkersburg. This can be a repair or replacement of an existing sign, or for a new sign. Downtown PKB will provide a 50% match in the total cost up to $500 per sign and the money will be reimbursed to property and business owner upon completion of the sign installation. Receipts will need to be provided for all reimbursed.
Those interested in a sign for their business should call Downtown PKB at (304) 865-0522 or email at amanda@downtownpkb.com. Downtown PKB will meet with those interested and provide referrals for graphic designers and production/installation contractors.
Signs are limited to one per business address in downtown Parkersburg. downtown will be considered 13th and Market streets southward to the floodwall.
In keeping with the signage ordinance for the City of Parkersburg, there will need to be an application for a sign permit for each sign, in addition to any zoning, construction, or electrical permits. Once the application is approved and all fees are paid and the sign is installed, constructed, etc., the sign will be subject to inspection by code enforcement. The associated fees for portable signs range from $25 to $100, based on size.
As an accredited member of the National Main Street program, Downtown PKB focuses on economic development, historic preservation, events and promotions, and downtown design. Providing this funding is an example of all four points of the Main Street approach.
