PARKERSBURG -- Two events will be held in Parkersburg today to discuss the proposed Amendment 2 to the West Virginia Constitution.
Called the "Property Tax Modernization Amendment," Amendment 2 would amend the Constitution to authorize the Legislature to exempt personal property (machinery, equipment and inventory) used for business activity and personal motor vehicle property tax from ad valorem property taxes, according to a summary listed on Ballotpedia. It also authorizes the Legislature to cut personal income taxes 10 percent across the board.
The West Virginia Manufacturers Association and West Virginia Chamber of Commerce will hold an Amendment 2 Roundtable Discussion from noon to 1:30 p.m. today at the Parkersburg City Building. Both groups support the measure.
Business and community leaders will discuss the amendment and answer questions.
Gov. Jim Justice also will be in Parkersburg to discuss Amendment 2.
Justice and West Virginia Secretary of Revenue Dave Hardy will participate in a Community Conversation to greet constituents and discuss the Governor's proposal to reduce West Virginia's Personal Income Tax and his opposition to Amendment 2 at 3 p.m. in the Judge Donald F. Black Courthouse Annex at 317 Market St.
Babydog, Justice's pet English bulldog and the face of the state's COVID-19 promotions, also will attend.
