PARKERSBURG -- Readers have shared their favorite businesses and organizations in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Now it's time to narrow them down to the best of the best.

Voting starts today to determine the top five nominees in each of 198 categories in the 2022 Parkersburg News and Sentinel Readers' Choice, ranging from Best Banquet Facility to Best Brake Service.

For the second year, all balloting is online, part of an effort to give more people the chance to participate while increasing transparency for the process. Votes can be cast at www.newsandsentinel.com/readerschoice/.

"We're excited to enter this next phase in which readers can now vote to support the businesses they nominated," News and Sentinel Publisher Jim Spanner said. "Our community includes a broad range of businesses and organizations, and our expanded list of areas and categories gives people the opportunity to tell us about all their favorites."

Readers can vote once per category per day through Oct. 13, making their preferences known for the area's best appetizers, pet groomer, roofing contractor and more.

Votes will be tallied by an independent third party. Once the top five are determined, readers will be asked to weigh in one more time, with the top vote-getter in each category earning the title of the 2022 Parkersburg News and Sentinel Readers' Choice. In addition, those with the second- and third-most votes will be announced as finalists.

Categories are spread across eight areas: Education, Entertainment and Travel, Food and Dining, Health and Beauty, Homes and Garden, Services, Shopping and Vehicles.

The list of nominees was determined by reader online submissions this summer.
