WASHINGTON -- Several health care centers in the region will receive funding totaling over $18 million for the state as a part of the American Rescue Plan.
Sen. Joe Manchin-D, W.Va., made the announcement Wednesday and the funds are designed to strengthen primary healthcare centers and improve healthcare options in underserved communities.
"The American Rescue Plan continues to deliver critical relief to West Virginia through vital investments in our healthcare workforce and infrastructure," Manchin said. "This American Rescue Plan funding will support expansion and renovation projects to ensure a robust healthcare infrastructure across the state and will help health centers to combat the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic."
Distributed through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the funds will support COVID-19 efforts such as testing, treatment and vaccinations.
"Community health centers are the go-to source of health care for more than one in four West Virginians. This funding will ensure our health centers have up-to-date and state-of-the-art equipment, including telehealth technology and mobile medical vans," Sherri Ferrell, CEO of West Virginia Primary Care Association said.
Ferrell also expressed her appreciation for state officials for their work toward this effort.
"We are appreciative to the administration for their investment in our health centers, and our congressional delegation's support as we work to ensure equitable access to health care for all West Virginians," she said.
The following health centers in the region received funding.
* Wirt County Health Service Association, Inc.: $675,021
* Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center: $646,641
* Ritchie County Primary Care Association: $585,294
* Roane Family Health Care: $557,563
