PARKERSBURG -- The WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center radiology and engineering teams developed a plan to install a large new state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging machine.
The group led by Tracy Smith and Barry Justice developed the plan to install the MAGNETOM Sola 1.5 MRI by SIEMANS Healthineers through a roof hatch instead of removing the roof or side wall of the building. MRI magnets are too large to pass through traditional door frames.
After some delicate maneuvering and pinpointed placement, the installation was completed as planned this week. The solution will make it easier to upgrade with new equipment in years to come.
The nearly $2 million investment enables Camden Clark to provide Mid-Ohio Valley residents the latest in technology and new imaging capabilities through MRI for breast, prostate and cardiac without having to leave the area.
"We are excited that the newest state of the art MRI unit has been successfully delivered to our facility," Tracy Smith, director of the Radiology and Vascular Lab. "This unit brings with it not only the latest in technology but new opportunities to expand our services and better care for our patients right here at home."
