BELPRE -- The Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging shoppers to experience everything the Belpre area has to offer at its Shop Small/Shop Local event, May Madness, during regular business hours on May 15 in Belpre, Marietta, Parkersburg and Ohio 339 areas.
The chamber partners with The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, Elite Signs and iHeart Radio for publicity, Karen Waller, chamber executive director, said.
Chamber member businesses have been encouraged to offer specials that day or sponsor a drawing for a gift certificate or card usable at their location. Shoppers should watch for special Shop Small/Shop Local signs in front of Belpre Area retail sites on May Madness Saturday, Waller said.
More than 40 retailers, service business and non-profits are participating.
They include Belpre Historical Society and Museum (open limited hours, so call first), Donato's Pizza of Marietta, Burger King of Belpre, Fitness with Phyllis, Bob's Market, Belaire's Bistro, Unicorn Wine Guild, Belpre Aquarium, Back to Basics Log Cabin, Wendy's of Belpre, Giovanni's Pizza, Smitty's Pizza, Peddler's Junction, Givens Trading Post, Frostee Shoppe, Napoli's/McHappy's, Changed Plate at Memorial Health System (open Monday to Friday), Givens Trading Post, Comic Sense Comic Book Shop, Village Cakery, Hickory Grove Market, Hendershot Motorsports, Main and Farson Street Car Washes, Belpre Furniture, Maka Mia Pizza of Parkersburg, Ohio Valley Timber Products, Zenergy Massage, Law Heating and Cooling, Wellness Sisters of Parkersburg, Napoli's and McHappy's of Belpre, Kroger of Belpre, Belpre Aquarium, Wood Heating and AC, Hendershot Motorsports, Unity Cafe in Parkersburg, Irvine's Camper Sales, Palmer Square Market, Circa @The Elms, Sno Biz, Frostee Shoppe, Boxer's Bed and Biscuits (retail opening June 1), Carpet Liquidators, Signality Signs and Graphics, Rhino Self-Storage of Racine, Ohio Valley Timber Products, Sno Biz, Marietta Office Supply and Pioneer Clothing Care.
"The unity in our small or local businesses is amazing," Waller said. "Our Chamber has seen growth in that sector, both in membership and the strength of businesses supporting each other. Together, the effort to remind shoppers of advantages of local purchasing is stronger when we work as a unit with our partners. The current health situation makes it even more vital for us to support businesses who provide jobs plus safe shopping and eating environments. We remind everyone to Shop Small/Shop Local."
