Kreamy Kreations reopens under Marietta teen’s management

MARIETTA -- Ice cream, shakes and hot dogs along the Ohio River levee will be part of summer once again as Kreamy Kreations has re-opened after several years.
"We opened Friday and were so busy we had to stay open an hour later than we planned," said Lizzie Lehman, 16, of Marietta. "Friends from school, people out just enjoying the river, everybody was so excited that we were open."
Lehman, who manages Kreamy Kreations, a walk-up ice cream stand wrapped in mint green and baby pink siding, has eight employees working for her and is getting set for a summer season beginning this holiday weekend.
"This used to be an ice cream stand for the high school when my brothers played football," she said. "But after that ended and I grew I thought, why couldn't I do it?"
The previous use for the ice cream shop was fundraising for Marietta High School's football and cheerleading teams between 2011 and 2014.
Now, the business will help Lehman save for college, as she plans to pursue a degree in business after she graduates next year.
"I've taken a ton of entrepreneurship and businesses classes in school and interned with the Building Bridges to Careers Epicenter and one of the main lessons I learned was the use of advertising and social media," she explained. "So I wanted these colors to stand out and draw people to the cute ice cream shop by the river."
Not only is the converted trailer wrapped in the signage designed by the young entrepreneur, but the picnic tables looking over the levee are painted to match.
"I think it's adorable," said Lehman.
The ice cream served comes from GWB Sales, with 16 flavors to capture a variety of favorites for local taste buds.
"I think the best is the black raspberry chip, especially in our waffle cones," Lehman said. "But we also have gourmet hot dogs that come from The Galley."
Lehman's father, John Lehman, who owns The Galley and the property of Kreamy Kreations, said he is proud of the initiative his daughter has taken to start her own business.
"I'm a proud parent. This has been all her idea and she is utilizing her friends to staff it," he said. "I have nothing to do with it except on the legal permits side."
Kreamy Kreations will be open Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. throughout the spring and summer until the end of the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival in September.
