99 Years: Nichols

Reda and Clarence Nichols

Clarence and Reda Nichols of Washington County will celebrate their 75th anniversary on Aug. 6.

Clarence will mark his 99th birthday on July 7. Reda will do the same on Dec. 5.

They first met in Marietta on Putnam Street near Broughton’s Restaurant. Clarence took one look at Reda and said she was the one. They were married Aug. 6, 1950.

Their marriage led to a wonderful baby boy, Fred, and a delightful daughter, Tammy.

Both Clarence and Reda had fruitful careers. After completing cosmetology school in 1945, Reda opened her own shop in Marietta and continued in the field for over 40 years before retiring. She started in real estate in 1979, becoming a broker, and enjoyed many years meeting clients that became lifelong friends. At the age of 90, she slowed down and retired from real estate.

Clarence was a traveling salesman, which took him to parts of southeastern Ohio and West Virginia.

They were both members of Eastern Star. Clarence was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Nemesis Shrine Club and a 65-year member of the United Commercial Travelers.

Starting at $2.99/week.
