Loy Dean Badgett and Connie Jean Gumm Badgett are celebrating their 50th anniversary Aug. 23.
He is the son of Greeley and Maysel Jarvis Badgett Stalnaker of Minnora, W.Va. After basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, he was stationed at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Ala.
While home on leave, he was introduced to Connie by his cousin, Randy Jarvis.
She is the daughter of Forest “Lake” and Phebe Ferguson Gumm of Burnt House, W.Va., and attended Mountain State Business College in Parkersburg.
The two married on Aug. 23, 1969, at Burnt House Methodist Church. They resided in Selma, then Mineral Wells until moving back to Minnora in 1975. They both retired from Calhoun County Schools in 2010.
They have 2 daughters, Melanie (Jim) Crawford of Williamstown and Malinda (Carlos) Gibson of Huntington.
They are the grandparents of Haylie Westfall and Spencer Westfall of Huntington, Ellen Dillon (Patrick) of Frankford, W.Va., Cheryl Kincaid (Geoff) of Beckley and Sarah Ferdon (Joel) of North Carolina, and they have two great-grandsons, Liam Dillon, 4, and Everett Ferdon, 2.
