Wayne and Ida Wager of Creston will celebrate their 50th anniversary today.
He is from Calhoun County. He was a math teacher at Calhoun County High School for 30 years.
She is from Grafton County. After being a homemaker for many years, she went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and was a postmaster for the local community.
Their daughter, Amanda Tingler, said “My dad’s roommate in college was also my mom’s cousin and that is how they chanced meeting each other. From the stories I have been told, he first fell in love with her yearbook picture and wanted to know who she was. It was only a short time later that they went on what they told their family a “fishing trip” and came back married!”
The couple settled in Creston with acreage and an old farmhouse on it. They built a new home with lumber from their woods and still live in it today.
They are the parents of one daughter, Amanda, and two sons, Justin and Dexter.
They have seven grandchildren: Tyler, Dylan, Bethany, Ryan, Cole, Flora, and Sophia; and two great-grandchildren: Tanner and Sawyer.
They are both retired and enjoy spending time with their family and grandchildren.
They will celebrate with a family gathering at their home.
