Authorities in Parkersburg investigating violent weekend incidents

By Staff Reports 1 min read

PARKERSBURG -- One man was hospitalized after being shot over the weekend in south Parkersburg and another was treated for injuries sustained in an assault, two incidents police believe were related.

The men -- both in their 20s and from the Detroit area -- were taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark around 2 p.m. Sunday in separate, private vehicles, Parkersburg Police Chief Scott Elliott said.

The man who had been shot was taken to surgery and his condition was not immediately available Monday. The individual who was assaulted was treated and released, Elliott said.

"We believe they're connected, but they occurred at different places," he said.

The assault took place at a residence, but police were still working to determine the location of the shooting, Elliott said. Both are believed to have happened on the city's south side.

The names of the men involved were not released Monday.

Elliott said the department is looking for multiple suspects.

"They didn't do it to each other," he said.

The attacks were not random, with the suspects believed to have known both men, Elliott said.

The incidents remain under investigation.
