WILLIAMSTOWN -- Paul Jordan has been elected mayor of Williamstown, according to the unofficial votes in Tuesday's primary election from the Wood County Clerk.
Jordan received 542 votes to incumbent Mayor Jean Ford's 456 votes. The number of provisional ballots left to count will not make up the difference, County Clerk Mark Rhodes said.
"Jean (Ford) has done a great job over the years, and I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve as mayor," said Jordan.
Jordan, who has served the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years and served on council for eight years, thanked Ford for inspiring him to pursue his political goals.
"Williamstown is a great place to live, and I am excited to help it continue to grow," said Jordan.
Ford said that after 23 years of being mayor, she will miss council and other city workers.
"We are like a big family, so it is weird to step down from my role in this family," said Ford.
Ford said overall losing the race had some positives.
"I will be able to put more focus on my store and will get more time to spend with my family," said Ford.
Ford said that Williamstown will always be a huge part of her life that she can look back on with pride.
Jordan will take office July 1.
