South softball upends University in OVAC semis
WHEELING — Parkersburg South took down University by a score of 5-1 in Wednesday’s Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 5A semifinal contest.
The Patriots, who improved to 16-6, will play the Steubenville-Morgantown winner in the championship game on either Friday or Saturday. The Hawks fell to 18-4-1 this season.
Anniston Shelton allowed just two hits and one unearned run in a complete game effort to lead South. The freshman struck out 13 batters and did not issue a walk.
Shelton was also one of three Patriots with multiple hits. She was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Brooklin Whitehead was 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and a run-batted-in while Brylee Hatcher was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs. Alison Marcum also drove in a run for PSHS, which overcame five errors on defense.
