Roundup: South boys fall to University, 67-65
MORGANTOWN — Harry Silvis hit six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 34 points, but No. 9 Parkersburg South fell just short of knocking off No. 8 University, falling 67-65 in Friday’s Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 5A third place game.
The Patriots (10-6) trailed 18-15 after one and 35-25 at halftime. They outscored the Hawks 17-12 in the third to get within five going into the final stanza, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Taj Joyce added a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double for PSHS, which visits St. Albans Tuesday, while Navi Hewitt chipped in 10. Matthew Mullen contributed seven boards and three blocks.
UHS (12-4) got 14 points from Glenn Brown, 13 from Jack Byrer, 12 from Zach Demidovich, nine apiece from Jagger Barnes and Kaleil Lewis and eight from Eli Karpinski.
Magnolia 74, Hundred 70
HUNDRED — Kingston Christen poured in a game-high 26 points to help lead Magnolia past host Hundred in an Ohio Valley Athletic Conference consolation game Friday.
The Blue Eagles (11-8) also got 17 points from Hunter Oates, 13 from Darin Shimp and 10 from Dubale Greathouse.
Colt Sandy led the Hornets (4-11) with 24 points. Trey and Jaxon Huggins added 15 points apiece.
GIRLS
Roane 52, Ritchie 35
ELLENBORO — Roane County held host Ritchie County to just 16.4% from the floor as the Raiders left town with a 52-35 victory Friday.
Anna Tolley led Roane (14-6) with 17 points while Ella Keen added 16. Braylin Bowe chipped in eight points for the Raiders, who led 9-7 after one, 26-13 at halftime and 41-23 after three.
The Rebels (12-6) were ranked eighth in Class AA in the most recent AP poll while Roane was unranked. They went just 9 for 55 from the floor and committed 22 turnovers.
Elsa Law led the team with 12 points and five steals. Rae Rupert, the team’s lone 12th grader, was honored as part of senior night and finished with 11 points, six boards and three steals. Chelsie Jeffrey chipped in six points and 10 rebounds.
