Roundup: Ravenswood holds off Catholic, 58-42
RAVENSWOOD — Parkersburg Catholic only trailed by five points here Thursday entering the fourth quarter against eighth-ranked, Class AA Ravenswood, but the host Red Devils limited
the Crusaders to two points in the final eight minutes to secure a 58-42 Little Kanawha Conference victory.
The 13-4 Red Devils, winners of seven of their last eight with a road trip set for Monday at St. Marys, received a game-high 18 points from Noah Dawson, who added eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Ravenswood, which got nine points, 10 boards and five dimes from Evan Swain, got a combined seven 3s from Colin Layton and Kelan Lucas, who tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Parkersburg Catholic, which slipped to 5-14 and plays Tuesday at Ritchie County, received double figure scoring efforts from Preston Randolph (15) and Leonardo DeAngelo (14).
Red Devil Jacob Francis chipped in eight points and grabbed eight caroms.
Magnolia 66, Wirt County 46
INSTITUTE — Dubale Greathouse had a game-high 23 points and Kingston Christen had 20 more as single-A, No. 10 Magnolia jumped out to a 32-18 halftime lead here Thursday in the Snyder of Berlin/UTZ Snacks Shootout at W.Va. State en route to a 66-46 victory versus Wirt County.
The 10-8 Blue Eagles also got seven points and nine rebounds from Eli Midcap.
Wirt County, which missed 13 of 14 from deep, dropped to 7-10 and plays Saturday at Tyler Consolidated, was led by Tyler Smith’s 14 points and six rebounds. Easton Wyer had nine points and nine rebounds for the orange and black, who got eight counters, three assists and three steals from Alex Bevel.
Greathouse pulled down eight boards while Christen had three assists and as many steals.
Tyler Consolidated 73, Trinity 41
INSTITUTE — Brody Giovinazzo drained 5 of 9 from deep and scored 23 points as Tyler Consolidated rolled to a 73-41 win against Trinity here Thursday in the Snyder of Berlin/UTZ Snacks Shootout at W.Va. State.
The 7-10 Silver Knights, who welcome in Wirt County on Saturday, got 18 points, seven boards, seven dimes and two steals from Brady Strode. Garrett Bordenkircher double-doubled for the victors with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds
Trinity, now 3-13 with its next affair set for Saturday at Madonna, received a game-high 30 points from Austin Porta, who hit 14 of 29 from the field. Teammate Parker Hopkins had 10 caroms.
Ritchie County 51, Cameron 47
INSTITUTE — Ritchie County’s Isaac Hodges and Cameron’s Mason Scott were pretty much unstoppable here Thursday in the Snyder of Berlin/UTZ Snacks Shootout at W.Va. State, but
the No. 11, Class AA Rebels improved to 10-6 following a 51-47 win.
Ritchie County, which held a 36-24 halftime advantage and a 40-32 edge entering the fourth, got a game-high 27 points from Hodges while Scott went for 26 and joined teammate Colin Magers with a game-high seven boards.
The Rebels, who play at South Harrison tonight and were without the services of Seth Cronin, got 11 points from Turner Shriver and eight by Rhett Johnson.
Hodges, who had a game-high four blocks and joined teammate Carter Satterfield with three assists, also pulled down six caroms along with fellow Rebel Garrett Flesher.
The 4-10 Dragons, who play tonight at Shadyside, also got eight markers from Camden Frye.
Ripley 43, Buckhannon-Upshur 38
INSTITUTE — Jerin Westfall’s game-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds weren’t enough for Buckhannon-Upshur here Thursday in the Snyder of Berlin/UTZ Snacks Shootout at W.Va. State as No. 4, Class AAA Ripley avoided an upset following a 43-38 triumph.
Ripley, now 13-4 with a home game Saturday up next versus Wayne, led 21-11 at halftime, but saw the lead dwindle to 31-29 entering the fourth.
Blake Justice led the victors with 16 points and joined teammate Brandon Sias with a game-high five steals. Kyler Doss added 12 points for the Vikings, who got six points from Sias as well as six rebounds.
B-U, which dropped to 10-7 and plays Tuesday at Parkersburg, also got seven points and seven boards from Xavier Rognette along with eight points and a game-high two blocks by Brody McDaniels.
Marietta 65, International Sports Academy 55
MARIETTA — Marietta wrapped regular season play with a 65-55 win over visiting International Sports Academy Thursday at Sutton Gym.
The Tigers improved to 16-4 and will play host to Athens at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a tournament opener.
Brayden Jones led Marietta with 17 points and five assists. Owen Riley, who was 4 for 5 from the 3-point line, added 15 points. Trey Hawkins chipped in 12 points and four dimes while Zaiden Wittekind finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
Lucas Miller grabbed a team-high nine boards off the bench and netted seven points for Marietta, which led 14-13 after one, 32-25 at halftime and 46-41 after three.
ISA rallied to take the lead in the fourth, but Marietta kept its composure and battled back to secure the victory.
