Roundup: South falls to Linsly, 70-67

WHEELING — Harry Silvis knocked down seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 35 points, but Parkersburg South couldn’t recover from an early deficit and fell to host Linsly 70-67 Thursday.

The Patriots (6-5) trailed 27-16 after one and 48-32 at halftime, but outscored the Cadets (5-9) 35-22 in the second half.

South, which visits Spire Academy Saturday, got within three late, but a last-second 3-point attempt rimmed out.

Silvis, who was 8 for 10 at the foul line, grabbed six rebounds and had four steals. Taj Joyce finished with 12 points and a team-high four assists while Matthew Mullen grabbed six boards and Mason Nutter blocked two shots.

Linsly got 20 points for D’arrae Goodwin, 18 from Ruben Salazar, 14 from Adam Gill, 10 from Jackson Bonar and eight from Uros Petrusic.

Doddridge County 63, Ritchie County 50

WEST UNION — Knotted up at 21-all at halftime, Doddridge County outscored Ritchie County 42-29 in the second half for a 63-50 win Thursday.

The Bulldogs will put their perfect 11-0 record on the line today at Braxton County. The Rebels fell to 7-6.

Jerod Trent paced DCHS with 19 points. Landon Thomas added 11 while Heston Hayes and Josh DeHaven netted eight apiece.

Isaac Hodges scored a game-high 25 points for Ritchie while Rhett Johnson added 11.

Wirt County 67, Gilmer County 59

GLENVILLE — A second-quarter surge and a career night from Braylan Dawson helped lift visiting Wirt County past Gilmer County 67-59 Thursday.

The Tigers (5-8) led 16-12 after one but pulled away in the second when they outscored the Titans (3-12) 23-11 to take a 39-23 halftime lead. It was 50-34 after three before Gilmer, which visits Paden City Saturday, outscored Wirt 25-17 in the fourth to get within single digits.

Dawson finished with a career-high 31 points to go along with four assists and three steals. Tyler Smith complemented his teammate with 18 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three dimes. Alex Bevel dished out eight assists to help WCHS, which heads to Parkersburg Catholic Tuesday, complete the season sweep of the Titans.

Gilmer was paced by Kolten Holbert’s 23 points. Zach Wine added 14 for the hosts, who lost despite going 24 for 30 from the free-throw line. Wirt was just 6 for 15 at the stripe.

GIRLS

Ritchie County 64, Braxton 38

SUTTON — The Ritchie County girls hit the road Thursday and came away with a 64-38 victory over Braxton County.

The Rebels, now 10-4 with a home game against Ravenswood set for Tuesday, led 12-9 after one and 29-21 at halftime, but turned it on the second half, outsourcing the Eagles 22-12 in the third and 13-5 in the fourth.

Elsa Law double-doubled with 17 points and 11 assists. She also contributed seven rebounds and six steals. Cheslie Jeffrey chipped in 11 points and four steals while Ava Satterfield netted a career-high 10 points to go along with four steals. Rae Rupert grabbed eight boards while Emily Bush tallied seven points and six rebounds.

Braxton got nine points from Bailey Pritt and eight from Aubrey Mowery.

Gilmer 73, South Harrison 28

GLENVILLE — The outcome was never in doubt Thursday as Gilmer County set the tone early and never looked back in a 73-28 victory over visiting South Harrison.

The Titans (11-2) led 22-3 after one and 47-11 at halftime. The Hawks cut it to 32 after three, but GCHS ended the game on an 18-5 run.

Allie Ellyson led Gilmer, which visits Doddridge today, with 18 points. Ava Dobbins added 15 points while Malory Casteel also reached double figures with 10.

SHHS was paced by Adalee Wright’s 12 markers.
