Roundup: Spencer scores 30 to lead Belpre past Eastern
BELPRE — Nasaih Spencer was unstoppable for Belpre Friday night.
The senior guard poured in a game-high 30 points to lead the Golden Eagles past visiting Eastern 74-62.
Eastern, which was led by Gavin Murphy’s 17 points, led 18-15 after the first quarter and was clinging to a 32-31 halftime advantage, but Belpre outscored the visitors 43-30 in the second half.
Spencer had plenty of help as AJ Copen tallied 17 points, Carson Moore added 12 and Chris Copen netted eight as Belpre improved to 2-0.
Eastern (1-2) saw Colt Lloyd (13) and Sam Balch (11) score in double figures.
Waterford 50, Trimble 39
GLOUSTER — Finn Pennock’s game-high 17 points helped lift Waterford past Trimble 50-39 Friday for the Wildcats’ first win of the season.
Pennock, who knocked down two 3-pointers in the contest, helped Waterford pull ahead 19-10 after a quarter. It was 27-21 at halftime.
Cole Sparling-Ponchak added 10 points for the Wildcats (1-1) while Max Roberts chipped in eight.
Trimble, which dropped to 0-3, was led by Brady Jajczyk’s 15 points, followed closely by Luke Orsborne’s 14.
Waterford turns its attention to Tuesday’s rivalry showdown at Fort Frye.
