Braxton Brawl scheduled for next Saturday

GASSAWAY — Dawghouse Promotions’ Mike Sheppard is expecting quite a show when the Braxton Brawl gets underway at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 inside the National Guard Armory.

Currently, the fight card is expected to have a baker’s dozen bouts with Braxton County graduate Trae Stout closing out the show in the main event.

The former Eagle, who fights out of the Tommy Thomas Boxing Club, is set for a scheduled six-rounder. Up for grabs against expected opponent Zak Kelly is the Dawghouse Promotions’ super welterweight professional boxing title.

Ravenswood graduate and Glenville State University grappler Jordan Varney will get the show underway against Clay County’s Nathan Gill. Varney, a Toughman champ, and Gill, a Rough N’ Rowdy champ, will clash in a mixed martial arts 145-pound Dawghouse Promotions title fight scheduled for a trio of two minute rounds.

“I honestly think this thing is going to sell out,” admitted Sheppard, who currently has very limited VIP tables available with advance general admission tickets going for $25 and $30 at the door, if available. “It’s a heck of a card, really.

“Hearl Collins is having his pro debut and he’s a three-time Toughman winner from Clarksburg. He’s knocked everybody out in the first round. He was undefeated (13-0) as an amateur. Zack Randolph is the state light heavyweight champ and he’s fighting a guy that’s beaten him before.”

The heavyweight Collins, who also trains at Tommy Thomas Boxing Club, is set to go toe-to-toe against Justin Richwine from Fairborn, Ohio.

Like Stout and Collins, “Razorback” Randolph also fights out of the TTBC and he’ll square off versus Tahlik Taylor in a professional light heavyweight showdown.

Two other DHP titles will be up for grabs including the super cruiserweight kickboxing championship, which pits 4-1 Cameron Carver of Columbus against Morgantown’s Chase Stafford, who is 3-2.

Prior to the main event, Parkersburg’s Autumn Miller and Gassaway’s Kelly Stout will vie for the DHP women’s bantamweight title.

“She’s getting better. She’s always giving up weight,” Sheppard said of Miller, who trains at the Dawghouse Gym. “She’s tougher than a pine knot. You can’t hurt her.

“She don’t care to get hit. The longer and bigger people got reach on her. This girl does, too, but it’s 119 pounds. Autumn only weighs about 106. They are both Toughman champions.”

Other amateur matches on the card feature Craycraft Boxing Club’s Caleb Henry taking on TKO Boxing Club’s Hunter Meade, Will Macmillan of Sams Gym against Dawghouse Gym’s Konor Davis, the Keystone State’s Tommy Pendland versus St. Albans’ Austin Carey, Cambridge’s Joe Wheeler fighting TKO Boxing Club’s Deshawn Davis, Clarksburg’s Dillon Pumphrey versus Gassaway’s Raymond King, Parkersburg’s Morrison Dailey versus Gassaway’s Terry Eagle as well as a respective debut cruiserweight kickboxing match pitting Top Dawg MMA/Underground Gym’s Bradley Brown against Sebastian Morris of Huntington Ground Zero.
