Parkersburg High track finds success in Athens

THE PLAINS, Ohio — Parkersburg’s boys topped the field here Wednesday evening at the Ohio Valley Running Company Invite, while the Big Red girls finished third.

Six Big Reds stood atop the podium individually for head coach Rod O’Donnell’s boys, who amassed 183.5 points to top runner-up Logan’s 151.5.

Ethan Dela Cruz (20-4.5) claimed the long jump crown and Connor Gribble cleared 6 feet to win the high jump.

Landen Deuley, who was runner-up in the 200 (23.54), sped to victory in the 400 with a clocking of 51.60.

Jackson Wharton won the 800 with a time of 2:01.54, Jack Mills ran a 4:35.22 to take gold in the 1600 and Ricardo Salazar’s clocking of 10:27.04 gave PHS 10 points in the 3200.

PHS had a quartet of runner-up efforts thanks to Jacob Bohone (110H, 16.54), Jay Bowling (300H, 42.92), Jake Bauman (shot put, 46-0) and Jon Ash (discus, 121-8).

The Big Reds’ 4×2 (Conner Petty, Christian Rutherford, Wharton, Deuley; 1:31.90) and 4×4 (Petty, Rutherford, Wharton, Deuley; 3:29.55) also finished first.

Parkersburg’s girls placed third with 97 points. Logan and Athens tied for the top spot with 182.

Head coach Lia Fleek’s Big Reds received runner-up showings from Allison Poole in the 400 (1:08.72), Aubrey Lantz in the 800 (2:23.89) and Bella Bowman in the discus (88-5).

Ellie Hines, Peyton Louden, Lucy Cartwright and Makayla House finished in 11:25.89 to win the 4×8.
