Parkersburg High School girls finish second, Angelos sets MSAC record
CHARLESTON — During Thursday night’s Mountain State Athletic Conference track championships at Laidley Field, Parkersburg’s Franklin Angelos set a new meet record in the 1600 while the Big Red girls finished runner-up to Huntington, 111-93.
Angelos’ time of 4:21.44 nipped the old record of 4:22.15 set back in 2002 by St. Albans’ Ben Lukowski. The Ohio University commit also won the 800 with a time of 1:58.79 as the Big Red boys finished with 28 points.
The Highlanders topped Cabell Midland, 158-97, to win the team title.
The Big Red girls continued their undefeated streak in the shuttles by winning with a time of 1:08.44 thanks to Lily Wharton, Katie Rutherford, Kendal Domenick and Addison Gherke.
The 4×4 team sped to victory in 4:18.50 thanks to Payton Harvey, Aubrey Lantz, Destiny Hastings and Gherke, who was runner-up in the 300 hurdles.
Rutherford, Harvey, Anna Martin and Lantz also finished second in the 4×8. Jacqualin Leaman had a heave of 99 feet, 11 inches to secure second in the discus.
