Ravenswood 56, Wirt County 27
ELIZABETH — Ravenswood turned a close 13-10 game after a quarter into a 35-14 halftime edge here Friday night en route to posting a 56-27 road win at Wirt County.
The Red Devils, who play host Saturday night to rival Ripley, received 14 points from Ashton Miller. Beau Bennett chipped in 11 points, Shawn Banks had nine and Blake Ball eight.
Wirt County, which received 14 counters from Nathan Murray and seven from DeShawn Middleton, returns to action with a 7 p.m. Monday varsity only affair at Wood County Christian.
Nitro 92, Ripley 53
NITRO — Nitro turned a 37-31 halftime lead into a blowout win here Friday night as the Wildcats tallied 55 points after intermission to cruise past Ripley, 92-53.
Cade Goode scored 10 points, Kadin Hall had nine while Isaiah Casto chipped in six points and a team-high seven boards for the Vikings.
Kolton Painter (27) and Joseph Udoh (25) did the heavy lifting for Nitro, which also received 13 counters from Bryce Myers and 10 markers by Trevor Lowe.
Gilmer County 63, South Harrison 57
GLENVILLE — The Gilmer County boys got off on the right foot with a 63-57 win over South Harrison on Friday night. Ty Wellings led all scorers with 26 points, and Cole Cogar joined him in double-figures with 10.
Three South Harrison players managed to find double-digit scoring nights, but Noah Burnside’s leading 16 wasnát enough. This game was tied heading into the final frame, but a GCHS run of 24-18 did the trick. Gilmer welcomes Tucker at 4 p.m. in an attempt to keep the good times rolling in Glenville.
St. Marys 59, Ritchie 44
ST. MARYS — Lara Fetty scored a game-high 19 points and added seven rebounds and four steals to help host St. Marys post a 59-44 win here Friday against Ritchie County.
The Blue Devils, who welcome in Wiliamstown on Saturday night, shot 26 of 32 from the foul line and also had double figure scoring efforts from Josey Moore (12) and Zoe Davis (10). Moore had a game-high five assists and teammate Kyle Wright chipped in nine markers.
Ritchie County, which hit 18 of 28 from the line, was led by Rebekah Rupertás 16 points, eight boards and four blocks. Sophia Nelson had 11 points, Olivia Cress nine and Soffi Bee grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and had three steals in the setback.
Gilmer 60, South Harrison 31
LOST CREEK — Gilmer County opened the 2021 campaign here Friday night by racing past host South Harrison, 60-31.
The Titans, who welcome in Doddridge County on Monday night, led 20-2 after one and 43-7 at halftime.
Carrah Ferguson led the Titans with a game-high 14 points. Eve Mohr, Emma Taylor and Malaysia Morgan contributed 10 markers apiece in the triumph.
Calhoun 62, Doddridge 43
MT. ZION — Calhoun County got the season started off in the right direction with a 62-43 home win over Doddridge County on Friday night.
Savannah Cunningham led the way with a game-high 22 points, and she was closely followed by Josie Montgomery, who scored 19 of her own.
The Bulldogs struggled to get going out of the gate, as they trailed throughout. Laurel McCombs paced the visitors with 17, while Abi Jo Nicholson was the other DCHS scorer in double-figures with 11.
Ravenswood 54, Wirt 39
RAVENSWOOD — Annie Hunt went for 17 points, Maci Mooser scored 14 and Libby Hall added 10 as Ravenswood improved to 1-1 following a 54-39 victory Friday night against Wirt County.
Emma Wyer led the Tigers with 17 points.
