Cougars cruise past Fairfield Christian, 54-13
NEW MATAMORAS — The Frontier Cougars claimed their first ever playoff victory Friday night with a dominating 54-13 win over the visiting Fairfield Christian Knights in a Division VII, Region 27 first round tilt at Frontier High School.
Junior tailback Slade Amos ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns and the Frontier defense was outstanding as the Cougars built a 24-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back to notch their fifth win of the season against two losses.
Senior fullback Noah Barnhart accounted for two more Frontier rushing touchdowns while junior quarterback J.D. Schmidt fired a pair of touchdown passes to Tanner Bills and Breckin Hoff respectively.
Frontier led 40-0 at the intermission and their starting defense did not allow the Knights a single first down in their three quarters of football.
Schmidt completed 7-of-14 pass attempts for 106 yards while the Cougars played a rare penalty-free football game.
The Cougars hope to continue their playoff success when they travel to Shadyside for a second round game next Friday night.
