OVU volleyball sweeps tri-match

VIENNA — It may not have been pretty, but the Ohio Valley University women’s volleyball team took two wins in a tri match on opening day of the season over Rio Grande and Notre Dame (Ohio) Saturday at the Snyder Activity Center.

The host Scots took the first match of the day from Rio Grande with a 3 sets to 1 win and then finished off the day by defeating Notre Dame by a 3-2 advantage in sets.

The Scots lost the first set of the day to a very fired-up Rio Grande team as the Redstorm took the first set 26-24. However, the Scots would come back and win the next three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-18.

The Scots had a balanced attack as Jessica Rafay (Las Vegas, Nevada ) and Carolina Ramirez (Columbia) would supply 10 kills in the game. Kaylyn Makimoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) would supply the defense with 18 digs in the back row.

The second match would be a little harder as OVU would win the first game by a 26-24 score. However, the next two games would go the way of the Falcons as they would win by scores of 25-14 and 22-25.

The Scots in the fourth game would find the way to score and that was with the quick set up the middle as they would find Imani Ward (Parkersburg High School) with the quick set in the middle of the court. She would end up with 14 kills in the match as the Scots outlasted the Falcons with scores of 25-23 and 15-11 in the finsl two games.
