URICHSVILLE — Freshman Peyten Kellar and sophomore Brady Oberdier will be representing Warren High School at next week’s Ohio high school state wrestling tournament at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

Kellar became the first ever freshman Warren grappler to advance to state. He went 4-0 in the 106-pound weight class at the district tournament at Claymont High School, taking down Columbus East’s Ammaar Salaam via pin (2:22), River View’s Rann Zimmer via pin (3:02) and Hartley’s Michael Petrella via major decision (13-2) to get the finals.

In the first-place match, Kellar edged West Holmes’ Cael Woods, 4-3, to win the district championship.

At 160, Oberdier lost his opening match against Claymont’s Kaden Bunting via pin (5:00). In the first consolation, Oberdier bested Highland’s Ryan Kelley with a mat slapper at 2:26. He advanced to the second consolation and defeated Utica’s Clayton Cummons with a pin in 50 seconds before knocking off New Lexington’s Corban West via pin (3:38) in the third consolation.

With three wins in a row under his belt, Oberdier took on Indian Valley’s Jacob Armstrong in the consolation semifinals, winning a 14-7 decision to advance to the third place match. With a spot at state clinched, Oberdier was pitted against Morgan junior Wes Pauley and lost a 6-2 decision to finish fourth at 160.

Pauley had previously pinned Jackson’s Brice Parks (5:07) and River Valley’s Bodgan Short (3:09) before falling to Carrollton’s Brandon Daniels on a 2-1 decision in the 160 semifinals.

That sent Pauley to the consolation semifinals, where he beat Beaver’s Logan Krulik on a 9-4 decision to set up his match with Oberdier.

Warren also was represented by senior Nate Gessel (0-2 in 195), senior Ronnie Hill (2-2 in 182), junior Dylan Anderson (0-2 in 170), junior Liam Kellar (2-2 in 152), junior Tristan Duffey (0-2 in 138) and senior Elijah Ross (0-2 in 120).

Marietta High had two matmen at the district meet. Senior Ethan Duvall went 1-2 in 145 while freshman Ethan Prather went 1-2 in 285.

The state tournament starts Thursday and goes through Saturday.
