Latrobe St Mission

REALLY? The 'mission' is being granted a huge amount of money to buy, tear down and rebuild apt. houses on Latrobe st to use for the people at the mission. That is another thing this neighborhood needs! Right! FYI the crime has TRIPLED in this neighborhood since Dec. (Opening day of the mission) The supporters of this mission need to move them all out next door to them.

I have got to say that I agree with Geezer 100 per cent! The Latrobe St mission has totally taken down what was at one point just an older neighborhood and put it in the ghetto area. Thanks to all the churches in the Not for sale ministries. The name is a joke. Just show them the money and they will jump right on it. Again, it is all about the Benjamines! (money) I had rather see that whole bldg. leveled and a parking lot put there than that drug infested den. Of course, that will never happen. Wonder why no one at the planning stages of this disaster that no one considered maybe a Senior citzen area for this part of PKB? Not enough money in that though. Or anything that normal decent people could get behind. The P.R. was saying that the people in the neighborhood was asked and was all for it. I know that is a bald faced lie. But who is going to believe us? The so-called 'christians' said it.

Toehead, you are exactly right. I am a neighbor of the mission and also a business owner. I do have a personal vendetta against the mission because I feel it is the final step in the demise of the neighborhood I have called home for almost 70 years. There is no building in Parkersburg that exemplifies our deterioration as a city more than the Storck Bakery building. A proud industrial icon has been reduced to a mission, a gambling joint, and two bars among a sea of gravel parking lots. Parkersurg in a nutshell.

So I must state again when I see what people like Geezer write, I think "there but for the grace of God, go I".

Geezer, it very obvious that you have a personal vendetta against the LSM, just look at all of your comments.Since you seem to know so much about what goes on there, you would have to be a neighbor or near-by business owner. So it sounds like the "not in my back yard" argument.

Toehead: Why don't you and the donors who inherited their dad's money get your godly selves down to the mission and take one or more of the bums home with you? Because you know damm well you wouldn't even speak to one, let alone bring one into your house. The group at the LSM are the ones the Salvation Army won't let in. They are the burglars, addicts, prostitutes, and career bums who can't pass a drug or alcohol test.

Show us your big heart.

Every time I hear some of the hateful elitist comments on here it reminds me of the proverbial saying,"there but for the grace of God, go I".

I now hear that the Latrobe st mission is no longer for the homeless but strictly for the drunks and drug users. Guess there is more money in that than providing a shelter for the homeless. But wait a minute! That is what it has been all along. The people who needed it are afraid to stay there due to the drugs and violence. Guess there is more money in providing a drunk tank and a dope dump than in providing a shelter for the truly needy. What happened to that so-called 'christian charity' the people from the churches were spouting about to get this thing started? What a joke! Another scam the churches pulled and a lot of people fell for!

"Why can't this place get the violence under control? Two major brawls in the past two weeks sent to the hospital. The person being loaded into the ambulance today looked like a child. What on earth goes on in that place?"

Please understand that the closer you get to the bottom of the social ladder the more apt people are to be acting on animalistic instincts instead of using the higher functions that have been instilled in our brains by civilization.

Thats why people at the bottom have way more children than people on the higher rungs of society. They operate on base instincts.

A methadone clinic would also have plenty of potential clientele.

The latest addition to the Latrobe Street mission is it will become a 'drunk tank' since Westbrook want take them any longer, that is, if they will be given $60,000 dollars! (you do know the mission is next door to the bars and also right beside the alcoholic anonymous bldg. Gee, they can get drunk and walk right to their bed then promise to go to AA and everyone is paid and happy! WoW! Again, I say, the whole Latrobe Street mission and AA is all about the Benjamines. (dollars)

Help! The 'mission' is having yet another toilet paper emergency. What is this place spending their grant money on? Also, the group of five bums who spend their day drinking at a nearby bar asked me to mention they also need a toaster oven because they are getting tired of the free subs from Subway being cold.

The churches and so called "Christians" need to pull their heads out of their backside and stop all support for that place. It is just a legalized drug stop and everybody but them know it.

I wonder what has to happen before the Latrobe st mission is shut down? There has been numerous drug busts, home invasions,(a mission resident broke into and was sitting on the couch drinking beer and eating a sandwich when the homeowner came home)this happened a few weeks ago. The police was given a complete description and the homeowner watched the man go back into the mission, but no arrest. There has been assault and battery within the mission, the people who need it the most are afraid to stay there due to the drugs and pushers there. One person was kicked out for a day because he had a weapon on him. What is it going to take to shut that hellhole down? Murder or child abuse? What?

Another need of the mission is a sharps container. The staff of Kesterson Laundromat is very concerned about the danger of used syringes they keep discovering in their restrooms.

The crime rate at the mission is so high that in the future I will only report felonies. This past weekend's felony was a sexual assault which happened early Saturday morning. The victim required hospitalization. No arrest was made. The perpetrator was turned loose onto the surrounding neighborhood.

Another problem with this 'mission' is that if people break the rules they kick them out into our neighborhood to continue their unacceptable behavior. Yesterday, after a 'resident' attacked and assaulted a staff member, he was merely removed from the building where he continued his rampage at the downtown transit/transient center on Juliana. The only success the Latrobe Street Mission can point to is being the recipient of grants from gullible foundations and other groups. In the meantime their residents are showing their appreciation by defecating in the bushes outside.

I see that the Lynn Street Church of Christ has mission graffiti started on the wall. Wondered how long that would take to get started. I heard they no longer support the mission and the 'residents' are taking up a whole lot of their parking spaces. Ummm.....wonder why the church want get together with the "Not For Sale" ministries and either shut it down or move it? The other churches involved just show up now and then and everyone is on their best behavior. I'm sure they know well ahead of time when to expect them. I saw a couple of people from the mission actually picking up trash from the parking lot.......once. The management though will defend it as long as her paying job last. You can bet no one at the church wants it near them.

All that money from donors but the place doesn't have any toilet paper. The 'residents' are going to neighboring residences and businesses asking to use the bathroom and/or a donation of toilet paper. A nearby business has posted a sign inside their facility banning residents of the mission from occupying their bathroom all day. The next time the spokesman waddles down from Greenmont please have him bring some Charmin.
