VIENNA - Fighting Scots Fight Night III is set for Friday evening at Ohio Valley University's Alumni Gymnasium and headlining the event will be a title bout between Joe Paintiff and Warren Browning.
Promoter Mike Sheppard has 17 scheduled fights on the card, a dozen amateur bouts and five professional showdowns.
Paintiff (9-2) and Browning (18-3), who are going toe-to-toe for the vacant Appalachian Boxing Association Northwest Cruiserweight Championship, has a lot riding on it.
According to Sheppard, the winner of the scheduled six-rounder will square off against current West Virginia cruiserweight champion Bobby Thomas Jr. in a title fight later this year.
"Warren's a strong guy and he's a big puncher, but Joe is crafty, quick and slick," Sheppard said of the featured fight. "I think it's a toss-up. Warren's got a bigger record. He's just been around a little longer."
The quartet of other pro fights include Billy Cottrill versus Orion Bolds (cruiserweight), Donnie Miller versus Brian Strickland (light-welterweight), Preston Wilson against Anthony Davis (light-welterweight) and Steven Whitehair against Steven Chesnik in a welterweight battle.
Strickland, from Indianapolis, is the son of Reggie Strickland, who was well known for having more than 300 pro fights.
Fans wanting to check out the weigh-ins can do so my heading to J.P. Henry's Restaurant at 8 p.m. Friday night.
Some of the amateur fights include Mike Brown/Ryan McCoy, Chad Miller/Josh Knopp, Zack Hays/John Bailey, Jeremy Cox/Lonnie Potts II and Rachael Cable/Kayla Owens.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and fights are scheduled to get underway at 7:30 p.m.
Once again, concession proceeds from the evening will go to the Ohio Valley University softball team.
