Roy Edward "Sparky" Ahart Jr., 86, of Vienna, W.Va., went to join the Lord and his wife of 60 years, Patricia Harper Ahart, on Feb. 19, 2014, after an extended illness at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
He was born on July 27, 1927, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Roy Edward Ahart Sr. and Edith Enoch Ahart.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during WWII in the Pacific Theater earning several medals and was honorably discharged in 1946. After returning home from the war he married his childhood sweetheart. He enjoyed life to the fullest sharing time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He had a special group of breakfast buddies called the H.A. Society. He was also a life-time member of the Lubeck Church of Christ and recently attended the 36th Street Church of Christ. He also enjoyed deer and squirrel hunting and was an avid woodworker. He retired from Corning Glass after 42 years of service.
He is survived by three children, Donelda (Wayne) Metz of Waverly, W.Va., Paula (Rob) Fouss of Vienna, W.Va., and Rodney (Anne) Ahart of Murphytown, W.Va.; two brothers, Jerry Ahart of Wilmington, N.C. and Ken Ahart of Parkersburg; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; one sister, Patsy; three brothers, Don, Mike and Jack.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., South Parkersburg, with Evangelist Mark Mason officiating.
Interment will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery with full military rites by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, at the funeral home and one hour prior to services.
Memorial donations may be made to Robert E. Fouss Memorial Fund at Parkersburg Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1762, Parkersburg, WV 26102 to buy shoes for local children in need.
