I am totally amazed that Republican leaders and the right-wing media are rushing to the defense of "Duck Dynasty's" Phil Robertson for his vile remarks against gay and lesbian Americans. They are yelling from the rooftops that Mr. Robertson's First Amendment rights have been violated because A&E has placed him on sabbatical.
Sorry guys but you don't get to re-interrupt the Constitution to suit your agenda. Our Constitution doesn't protect free speech with no consequences in a free market world. Does the First Amendment allow you to say nasty and disgusting remarks against your female boss because she is a woman? Can you make derogatory statements against Christianity to your Christian employer and expect to keep your job? Can you make racist remarks against your black boss and keep working?
You can make the comments but then you must accept the consequences. A&E is a private business and they have every right to fire Mr. Robertson. If not for his recent comments in GQ magazine, then based on his comments at a Pennsylvania gathering in 2010 where he is even more graphic in his hatred for gays. I quote verbatim. "Women with women, men with men, they committed indecent acts with one another, and they received in themselves the due penalty for their perversions. They're full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil."
No, Mr. Robertson's constitutional rights have not been violated. He has the right to say what he believes and A&E has the right to fire him for it. Maybe it's not too late to return the "Duck Dynasty" chia pet you got Uncle Henry for Christmas.
