Freda Ruth Barnes, 70, of Parkersburg, passed away Oct. 27, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center.
She was born May 8, 1943 in Parkersburg, and was raised at Belleville being a daughter of the late George Leonard and Nelma Catherine Hill Smith.
Freda was a member of the Fairlawn Baptist Church and was a 1961 graduate of PHS. She was a former employee of Sears, J.C. Penney, Dils, Storcks and the Navy Exchange System. She had also been a representative with the Koch Jewelry Company.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Okey Barnes; one son, Donald (Julie) Barnes of Parkersburg; two daughters, Cinda Barnes of Parkersburg and Wanda (Steve) Turner of Washington; two grandchildren, David Barnes and Alex Turner; brothers, Bob (Opal) Smith of Washington, Carl Smith of Vienna and Gary (Peggy) Smith of Belleville; and sisters, Faye (Conn) Moore of Columbus, June Newhouse of Waverly, Kathryn Lee of Parkersburg, and Betty Pickering. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Smith; three sisters, Janet Travis, Loufon Patterson and Reva Mae Smith; and her step-mother, Edith Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th Street, Parkersburg, with Pastor Greg Varndell officiating and burial following at Sunset Memory Gardens. The visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday from noon until time of the service.
