PARKERSBURG - Katie Miller's rebound goal off her own penalty kick gave visiting Marietta a 1-0 advantage just before halftime here Wednesday night at the Erickson All-Sports Facility, but host Parkersburg South rallied in the second half for a 3-1 girls soccer victory.
The Patriots fired seven shots on goal at Tiger keeper Nora Gulick in the first half, but the sophomore kept her slate clean even though the hosts missed on a couple of solid opportunities.
In the 10th minute, shortly after Miller had a run thwarted by Monica Stanwick, Lexi Smith sent a pass into the box for Alli Jones, but Gulick made the save. Marietta's Mo Robinson sent a long pass into the box in the 12th minute, but no fellow Tiger could track it down. PSHS thought it was going to score a couple minutes later when Sydney Homan's touch to Jones was fired at Gulick. However, Gulick made the save and the rebound shot by Taylor Life went wide.

Marietta's Yoon Chang blocks Parkersburg South's Monica Stanwick away from the ball Thursday as both attempted to track it down. The Patriots won, 3-1.
Marietta's Audrey May nearly tracked down a ball that was going toward the Patriot net after Miller had headed it at midfield in the 18th minute, but Alexis Skinner scooped it up just in time.
Parkersburg South's first corner kick, which was taken by Kristen Offutt in the 22nd minute, was headed just above the crossbar by Life. Marietta also got a shot later in the first half from Jennson Hausman, but it went into the side of the net.
Disaster struck for the now 7-5-1 Patriots with less than a minute remaining until intermission when they were called for a handball in the box. That led to the Tigers' only two shots on goal in the first 40 minutes when Miller drilled the PK, then got the rebound and scored with ease.

The Patriots, who return to action on Friday with a road trip to Washington, got the equalizer in the 49th minute when Zoe Miller had the ball unmarked around 25 yards out and put a solid foot on it to get it past Gulick.
Marietta, which will conduct Senior Day on Saturday afternoon versus River View, found itself down for the first time in the match in the 54th minute. That's when Life's shot was blocked by Gulick, but Olivia Carpenter was Johnny-on-the spot and scored off the rebound.
The Tigers (3-11) failed to get inside the PSHS 40 until nearly the midway point of the second half. Emily Brezler, who had three near-misses late in the first half, almost made it 3-1 in the 60th minute. However, her shot caromed off the top of the crossbar. Brezler also just missed on a header that went high in the 70th minute from another Offutt corner.
Parkersburg South tacked on its final tally with 1:36 left in regulation when the sophomore Jones used a nifty flick of her foot pass to senior sister Kirsten Jones, who beat Gulick's attempt at her 13th save.
